Breakfast with Lisa & Josh #31

Welcome back to Breakfast with Lisa & Josh!

We should probably start shopping for houses in Koh Samui. Yep, it’s that good. We keep extending our stay here - first it was 7 days, then 9, now 12. There’s something about Thailand, and Koh Samui in particular, that’s bringing out the best in us. We feel healthier, happier, more alive… it’s just great in every way for us right now. We didn’t know we needed a place like this on our trip, but we definitely did.

We’ve been spending our days driving motorbikes all around this amazing island, figuring out what’s open and what’s still closed, and relaxing more than we’ve been able to for a long time. We’ve had a number of comments saying that we look happier in Thailand than before, and I have to agree. We’re feeling more at ease. Not sure why, but I’m not one to question a good thing.

Some of our big highlights include the hotel we’re staying at - Sans Souci has been our wonderful hideaway for over a week now (not sponsored, we just love this place), and we’ve really gotten into a routine here. Wake up, go for a run on the beach, pet the dogs for 30 minutes, eat breakfast, get out into the world and see some sights, make a video, spend 4 hours editing, and then watch a Harry Potter movie before bed. That’s been our exact day for a week straight, and I have to admit, I’m starting to fall in love with it. It feels like the perfect mix of work and play for us right now. We’re starting to fall into the feeling that this is not a vacation, which means that we can take things at a much slower pace. We’re moreso in a digital nomad mindset - slowly moving from place to place and finding a balance of work and play. Just like our lives before this trip and YouTube channel, but with a lot nicer weather and food.

I think that change of mindset has really taken a lot of the weight off - we were still in a bit of “OH GOD WE’RE ON VACATION SO WE HAVE TO SEE EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE WE GO NEVER STOP GO GO GO” mindset, and I think being in Southeast Asia has broken us out of loop. We feel like we can finally treat this more as a lifestyle change, and less of a one-time thing. It feels very… comfortable now.

Up next we have 5 nights scuba diving in Koh Tao, and then we’re spending Christmas in Koh Phangan. I’ve spent months on months in Koh Tao, and I absolutely love it there. However, I’ve never really spent real amounts of time in Koh Phangan, so I’m really looking forward to exploring somewhere new, and having a home base for Christmas. Anyone out there have some tips for us?

Outside of all of that, we’re just trying to figure out how to get Christmas presents to our family from so far away, and not feel too homesick as we spend the holidays away from our friends and families. It’s a tough time of year to be away from home.

THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT (IN CASE YOU MISSED IT)

When we hit 100,000 subscribers, we're going to give away a trip around the world to one of you. Yep. We're literally going to send one of you on a trip around the world once we hit 100,000 subscribers here on YouTube.

One of the biggest reasons we started this channel was to inspire and show others that they CAN travel. On top of that, we wanted to help people actually do it and show people it is possible. Because before we did it, we didn’t think it was either. We decided the ultimate way to make this happen is to also just give people the means to actually travel.

While it still seems so far away, we have never felt more excited about a goal. As we get closer to our goal, we will smooth out the details aaaand we'll definitely need to work with an accountant to figure out how to do this - anyone know a good one? 🙂

We know, more than most, that the biggest hurdle to taking a trip is the finance part of it. Sometimes it is hard to know where to even start. We know that we're incredibly lucky to be able to do this, and we think that this experience, and all that travel we've done, has been life changing for us in the best possible way, and we want to make it our purpose to give away the gift of travel as often as we can, as our channel grows.

So, all of the money that we make from this channel above how much it costs for us to keep eating (all those kebabs), traveling, and making these videos, will go towards sending one of you on this trip around the world.

So, stick around. More info to come as we get closer to this goal - we can’t wait :)

Videos this week

THE BEST $20 YOU CAN SPEND IN THAILAND Koh Phi Phi Maya Bay Boat Tour

The YouTube algorithm picked this one us for some reason, and it’s been a kinda crazy week for us as a result. We had such a good time making this one and boating around snorkeling… what a perfect day.

Goodbye Phuket, Hello Koh Phi Phi - The Empty Paradise?

We also talked for a bit about what’s up with Koh Phi Phi as it reopens, and gets its feet back under it after 2 long, long years of no tourism.

So, that’s it for this week. More great videos coming soon!

See you next Sunday…ish :)

Oh, and if you want to learn how we afford to take all these trips after quitting our jobs last year, you’ll likely be interested in our Skillshare course on Travel Hacking and Frequent Flier Miles. It’s been really taking off lately, but we still have a few uses of this link left for those of you who want to see the class for free. It comes with a free month of Skillshare, which is more than enough to watch our class and any of the other great courses on there!
