Breakfast with Lisa & Josh #36

Welcome back to Breakfast with Lisa & Josh!

We hopped on a flight to Chiang Mai not really knowing what to expect. We knew that it likely wouldn’t be the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, nor would it be the island-vibes of Koh Samui. It ended up not being either of those, but something else entirely.

Chiang Mai is an area of Thailand that is honestly usually overlooked when most people are planning their trips. The general tourist trail here is to fly into Bangkok, then catch a flight to either Phuket or Koh Samui, and then island hop until you head back home. As a result of not being in that tourist trail, this small, unassuming, beautiful city in the north has become a haven for digital nomads of all kinds. Something about the mixture of affordable apartments, truly mind blowing coffee shops, and ubiquitously lightning fast internet has made this a place that people want to settle down in for a while. After a few days here, we can totally see why. It just… charms you into staying. Lulls you into a place of serenity, where days pass by and turn into weeks, which for some turn into years. There’s a well established community of expats here that are incredibly welcoming, and it just feels like the right place to be - the place where businesses are starting and digital nomads are building their futures, and maybe everyone else’s along with it.

It’s not just the expat and digital nomad community that makes this place great though - it’s the people, and the incredible nature - both within the National Park and outside of it, the conveniences of a city, and THE FOOD.

There’s just so much to love about this place. We definitely considered staying longer. And actually moving here. Maybe we will someday. But, our time in Thailand is coming to an end. Onwards.

Right now we are in a lounge at the Chiang Mai airport waiting to head out on our flight to Bangkok, where we will spend a few days preparing for our next destination -

The mountains are calling, and we must go.

Videos this week

Thailand Street Food Magic - Chiang Mai

We were really impressed with all the details of Street Food here in Chiang Mai - there’s so many little things about it that all add up into true, genuine magic.

How One Thai Massage Changed My Life

Lisa also had he life changed by a massage here. No Pain, No Gain.

You haven't really seen Chiang Mai Thailand until...

We took a motorbike up the tallest mountain in Chiang Mai, and learned that maybe *some* old sayings make sense still.

So, that’s it for this week. More videos coming soon!

See you next Sunday…ish :)

Oh, and if you want to learn how we afford to take all these trips after quitting our jobs last year, you’ll likely be interested in our Skillshare course on Travel Hacking and Frequent Flier Miles. It’s been really taking off lately, but we still have a few uses of this link left for those of you who want to see the class for free. It comes with a free month of Skillshare, which is more than enough to watch our class and any of the other great courses on there!
