Breakfast with Lisa & Josh #38
Welcome Back to Breakfast with Lisa & Josh!
As we hunker down in Chiang Mai, and move into our comfy little house, we’ve realized that we’ve just been moving too fast, for a really, really long time.
It’s almost become a meme in our videos - us saying over and over and over, all the way from our first few weeks in Europe, that we needed to slow down. We said it in Switzerland, and then again on the Camino, and in Santorini, and in Thailand, and and and - I can’t remember a time when I didn’t feel like we were moving faster than was reasonable for the world that we live in now.
With all of the new-and-complicated COVID protocols and entry requirements to go literally anywhere and do anything, you’d think that the world would have just slowed us down, but no, we just kept going as fast as we could. We went to 24 different places in 119 days to start our Europe trip, which averages out to just under 5 days per location. Let’s break that down:Day 1: Get to new place, unpack, figure out how anything worksDay 2: Go sightseeing, film a video, edit our last videoDay 3: Edit the video that we made the day beforeDay 4: Go sightseeing, film a videoDay 5: Pack up, get on a plane, go to the next place
It’s been that way for 190 days, until, finally, now, we’re settling into one place for a month. It seems like an eternity for us - we are afraid that we’re going to get bored here, run out of things to make videos about, run out of interesting stories to tell.
Much more likely, we’re just going to like it so much that it’ll be really, really hard to leave.
I mean, just look at this place. Come on.
We’re spending money on gym memberships, protein powder, pour over coffee setups, and long term scooter rentals instead of airplane tickets now, and also giving ourselves time to work on some bigger projects that we’ve been putting off for a long time. Like our Camino de Santiago documentary. And our series on How to Quit Your Job and Travel the World (first one out now!). And finishing up our travel and map handbag designs so that we can get those to you. And taxes. Ugh, taxes.
And, you know, actually catching up with friends and family. A much needed thing that we haven’t had a ton of time for due to our previous schedule of full-time travel and full-time YouTubing. It’s amazing how little energy we have had to do anything other than those two things.
It may sound a bit trite, but it’s genuinely difficult to understand just how much you needed something until you have it. We were comfortable moving around every 5 days like that, moving at the fastest possible pace that the current situation would allow us to, until the wheels just fell off. We had been accumulating all this debt - physical exhaustion, ignoring our emotions, ignoring our bodies, getting sick more frequently, never really connecting with a place - debt that we would have to repay someday. Eventually, we just couldn’t keep going at that pace anymore - we needed a change, and a big one, right away. That’s exactly what we’re doing right now. I think it’s going to be amazing for us, and for the videos that we create. There’s just so much to do here.
This is just what we needed. We really had no idea how bad things had gotten until we took a break and a closer look at ourselves, but we REALLY needed a bit of home to get our lives back in order.
We’ll be back on an airplane in no time I’m sure - this first week has just BLOWN by. For now though, it’s time to go deep here in Chiang Mai.
Videos this week
This is the story of us moving to Chiang Mai for the next month, and the life changes that we’re hoping to make happen during that time. It’s time to get our stuff together.
Rolled Ice Cream. What more do I have to say?
This one is the first in our 3 part series about how to quit your job and travel the world. It’s fun, and just might help you do something that you’ve been trying to do forever.
So, that’s it for this week. More videos coming soon!
See you next Sunday…ish :)

Oh, and if you want to learn how we afford to take all these trips after quitting our jobs last year, you’ll likely be interested in our Skillshare course on Travel Hacking and Frequent Flier Miles. It’s been really taking off lately, but we still have a few uses of this link left for those of you who want to see the class for free. It comes with a free month of Skillshare, which is more than enough to watch our class and any of the other great courses on there!
