Breakfast with Lisa & Josh #42 - The answer to life the universe and everything
Welcome Back to Breakfast with Lisa & Josh!
First, let me start with the bad. We’re currently in our tiny campervan - complete with broken fridge, low oil due to leakage, and a manual transmission that has a very theoretical 3rd gear - in a parking lot of an Italian museum / rest stop, waiting out the absolutely biblical floods that are hitting NSW and Queensland right now in Australia.
We spent all day dodging flooded roads and trying to find a campsite that wouldn’t wash away, until the warm welcoming glow of this flat, safe, actually-paved-thank-goodness parking lot allowed us to stay.
,Yeah, I mean, it’s not great right now. Wow, we look awful. Sorry. This week has been exclusively filled with nonstop rain from the moment that we arrived in Australia. Still, we’re luckier than most - people have had loved ones, homes, businesses, and vehicles all taken away from them due to this totally unexpectedly crazy weather.
We’ve been watching the news too - we know just how lucky we are right now, and how small our current concerns are in the face of the war happening right now. Perspective is sometimes difficult to have, but with what’s going on right now, it’s more important than ever.
Ok, onto the good.
We’ve been lucky enough to be able to start our campervan trip up the Eastern Coast of Australia. We’ve seen unspeakably beautiful beachside campsites, hundreds of kangaroos, and an amazing koala hospital that just melted our hearts.
We figured out how to drive a manual transmission campervan that has over 300,000 miles, on the other side of the road, in a city and country that we don’t know, and lived to tell the tale. The weather has been hilariously bad, but we’ve still found beautiful moments in beautiful places, all while having the adventure of a lifetime.
Things haven’t been perfect, and honestly, we’ve been a bit down since we started the van journey, because this hasn’t exactly been the trip that we were hoping for. It’s been more expensive than we hoped, and we haven’t been able to do as much as we’ve wanted to.
However, still, Australia, and its incredibly warm and welcoming people have made this into something amazing - even if it wasn’t exactly what we were expecting when we first planned this trip. I mean, as soon as we landed, we received dozens upon dozens of messages from viewers in Oz welcoming us, offering us a hot coffee, a place to do laundry or have a warm shower. We saw 10 baby kangaroos today and this super cute koala. How can you have a bad day when that happens?
Videos This Week
The thing we’ve been working on for seemingly forever. We’re super proud of this Camino de Santiago documentary - it’s a very different video from what we normally make. We hope you like it :)
Australia is back open! This is us going through all of the various requirements of getting into this beautiful (and shockingly wet right now) country, and our first few hours before we started our Campervan roadtrip.
This is our first day of van life in Australia, and it went really, really well, as you can see. Lol.
So, that’s it for this week. More videos coming soon!
See you next Sunday…ish :)

Oh, and if you want to learn how we afford to take all these trips after quitting our jobs last year, you’ll likely be interested in our Skillshare course on Travel Hacking and Frequent Flier Miles. It’s been really taking off lately, but we still have a few uses of this link left for those of you who want to see the class for free. It comes with a free month of Skillshare, which is more than enough to watch our class and any of the other great courses on there!
