Breakfast with Lisa & Josh #54 - Introducing Some Chaos

Welcome Back to Breakfast with Lisa & Josh!

I’m writing to you today from the single least comfortable coffee shop in all of Seoul. The coffeeshop itself is great, it’s just - do you ever wonder why minimalistic restaurants and shops always have the least comfortable furniture? It looks cool, but all the furniture feels like it’s made for some alien species that does not value comfort in any way. Know what I’m saying?

You get it.

Today

We’re back in Seoul, traveling on our own for the first time in 2 months. Our parents had to head home, and saying goodbye was really tough. We had just finally figured out how four excited travelers with different interests, hopes, dreams, and paces can rally travel well together in Asia. We started to also really figure out how to fit in our super long editing sessions, along with focusing on the trip itself. It just doesn’t feel right without them around anymore. The past few days since they left has just been in a bit of a haze.

In attempt to be more spontaneous and adventurous, we tried to camp in Seoul, but absolutely, hilariously failed to do (video on this coming soon). We tried to film a street food tour, but couldn’t get the gumption to do so, and then just ended up eating KBBQ. Again. We’ve been feeling a bit off, that’s for sure.

We’re going to try again tonight to see if we can get out into the world and do some stuff. We’ve got a few weeks until our friends from back home in Hawai’i get here to travel with us, and we’ve been having such a good time in South Korea, we just can’t wait to explore as much of it as we can.

KBBQ is still great though.

The (Near) Future

Coming up soon we’re going to go to some of the more off-the-beaten-path parts of South Korea… but we’re not exactly sure where. Yet.

We’re going to literally throw a dart at a map of South Korea and go wherever it lands. That’s our plan.

You see, our working theory is that anywhere in South Korea, or the world for that matter, can be interesting, as long as you go to it with the right mindset. The mindset of a traveler, of a tourist, of someone open to interesting-ness. If we go out looking for it, and let the world surprise us, we’re betting that it will.

We’ve been feeling lately like we’ve been wanting more of a challenge, more adventure, less predictability, and just generally a different trip. I think we’ve gotten too comfortable, stayed in too many fancy hotels (on points only, of course), eaten out in actual restaurants too much (but let’s be honest, we still visit the convenience stores all too often)- it’s time to shake things up. Those things are all nice, but they’re not really us.

So that’s our plan - let a dart decide our fate for us.

I think that this is exactly what we need right now. Some randomness. Hopefully some chaos. Change.

We’ll update you next week from wherever we end up.

You Haven’t Seen Indonesia Until You’ve Seen This (Not Bali)

This video has really connected with a lot of people, and we’re super happy about it! We got the opportunity to show a different side of Indonesia than most people go to. We LOVE making this type of content, it feels good to be able to highlight a place that’s less known, and share it with all of you. Thank you so much for your love you’re sending us as a result of this one - it means the world to us.

See you next Sunday…ish :)

Oh, and if you want to learn how we afford to take all these trips after quitting our jobs last year, you’ll likely be interested in our Skillshare course on Travel Hacking and Frequent Flier Miles. It’s been really taking off lately, but we still have a few uses of this link left for those of you who want to see the class for free. It comes with a free month of Skillshare, which is more than enough to watch our class and any of the other great courses on there!
