Breakfast with Lisa & Josh #59 - A New Adventure

Welcome Back to Breakfast with Lisa & Josh!

BACK IN THE GAME, BABY

It’s high time we got back out into the world.

We’ve been at home for about a month now. Editing our South Korea videos, receiving super helpful emails to point us in the right direction of a potential home base (looking at you, Ethan! :) ), paying taxes, spending time with friends and family. And our cat.

Generally just getting our lives back together after a full year away.

We’re ready for another adventure. Something new. Something totally bonkers.

We’ve always been attracted to quests - audacious ideas that usually take a long time, are at least a little bit ridiculous, have some semblance of rhythm and routine, some kind of end destination, and inevitably lead to us regretting setting out on them at least a few times throughout the journey, but continuing to teach us life (literal, practical and metaphorical) lessons month after we finish.

The Camino de Santiago is a perfect example of this (comparison is the thief of joy, the Camino provides, definitely need more vegetable in our diet.) Or building a campervan from start to finish (van life isn’t for us). Or trying to take a bus literally all the way around O’ahu in a single day (you need a car on O’ahu). Or walking all the way around the massive city of Seoul (a compass and the old fortress wall are the only guides you need).

July 2020 - After quitting our jobs to travel, the pandemic hit. So we decided to try van life. Building out Clunk Clunk with the parents was the most fun.. living in it is a different story…

January 2021 - We tried to take the bus (or Da Bus, as it’s lovingly known as) all the way around Oahu. We didn’t make it too far.

August 2021 - We started in St Jean Pied de Port, France, with 500 miles to walk. By week 2, we were questioning everything. But we were all smiles after we found our way (and were much closer to Santiago).

June 20222 - We walked the entire fortress city wall around Seoul, staying in neighborhoods along the route, relying on our ole’ pal—the fortress city wall :) It was, hands down, was one of our favorite memories and to this day, we still tell all of our friends that this is the best way to experience Seoul. (Video coming soon!)

With how each of these seasons have gone for us, I’m sure it’ll all be fine…. that’s what I tell Lisa, at least.

This next thing we’re doing is going to be no different - it’s a big, audacious quest that we’ll almost certainly end up regretting embarking upon at some point.

But it’s also going to be incredibly awesome, and we couldn’t be more excited.

We’re traversing to the northern most city on the planet - Longyearbyen.

There’s a story there, I promise. There’s a reason we’re going, but as with all quests we’ve embarked on these last few years, the journey will be half (probably most) of the fun. It’s going to be a blast, and we can’t wait to show you every step and mis-step of the way.

Today

We’re packing up for this big adventure we’re about to go on.

As good as it feels to be getting back on the road again, the hardest part is today, actually. Saying goodbye to everyone, packing everything back into our tiny backpacks, giving hugs that never seem to last long enough, and trying not to be sad.

The (Near) Future

Planes, trains, automobiles, and probably lots of running.

Oh, and if you want to learn how we afford to take all these trips after quitting our jobs last year, you’ll likely be interested in our Skillshare course on Travel Hacking and Frequent Flier Miles. It’s been really taking off lately, but we still have a few uses of this link left for those of you who want to see the class for free. It comes with a free month of Skillshare, which is more than enough to watch our class and any of the other great courses on there!
