Breakfast with Lisa and Josh #82 - 3 New Routes that Make Travel Affordable Again

Welcome Back to Breakfast with Lisa & Josh!

Soundtrack for this newsletter: Men at Work - Down Under

After writing the last newsletter I felt pretty down.

I had spent so much time looking into how all aspects of travel had become incredibly expensive - flights, hotels, tours - everything has just skyrocketed.

I couldn’t shake that feeling that there still must be some deals out there, that it’s not all bad news.

It really felt like reasonably priced travel might be gone, forever.

I had to prove myself wrong.

This doesn’t have to be you. There are still deals to be found.

So I did what any reasonable person would do - I spent endless hours digging around the underbelly of the travel-internet, frantically trying to find the last few scraps of good travel deals available.

And boy did I find some good ones. There’s definitely still some great deals to be had/ In fact, there’s some new routes being offered that are incredibly valuable, and I just had to share the love.

Let’s get to it.

# 1 - Getting to Australia is cheap now??

I had always felt that getting to Australia was basically a points-only excursion. Round trip flights were $1500+, all year round, from basically everywhere in the US. It was always some bonkers multi-hop 24 hour experience from home to Los Angeles to Tokyo to Sydney.

Not any more.

With Jetstar finally offering nonstop service to and from the US, visiting Australia is not only possible, it’s a downright bargain.

How can you say no to that??

We’re actually taking advantage of this incredible deal twice before the end of the year - using Sydney as a base to explore Southeast Asia, and as one of the very, very few affordable ways to get to New Zealand these days.

The photo above is from Honolulu - which isn’t where most people will start their trip from, but it is probably the single best stopover destination on planet earth. So if you’re not in Hawaii, just turn your trip into a wombo-combo Hawaii and Australia vacation, all for half the price of flying from wherever you are to Australia.

Getting to Australia has never been cheaper, and it probably won’t be this cheap for long, as Jetstar is just temporarily reducing the price to market their new route.

Wow. Just wow.

#2 - The New Gateway To Japan

Tokyo for cheap? I can only say HELL YEAH so loud.

Yes. Please.

This new kid Zipair is really changing the game, in a very good way.

Most flights to Japan these days are $600+ one way, usually more. And just forget about flying direct anymore, it’s outrageously expensive.

Zipair has made both of those things possible - direct and cheap. It’s a budget airline for sure, but as far as cheap-o airlines go, it’s by far the nicest.

Seats are comfortable.

WiFi is free.

Food is affordable.

Baggage restrictions are reasonable.

What else do you really need?

We flew this one earlier this year, and it was great.

If you’ve been dreaming of visiting Japan this fall or early next year, this is the best way to do it right now.

#3 - Europe in the Fall for $500 Roundtrip

The time has come, once again, for us to be pulled in by the siren song of Europe.

Annually, we start thinking that its about time to head back to Europe with statements like -

“Oh man I miss the croissants so bad”

“I can’t wait to eat at that one pizza place in Rome, it was so good”

“Let’s spend 40+ hours on trains instead of flying because we already bought that Eurail pass”

This always comes with the eventual realization that all of our videos that we make in Europe, outside of walking 500 miles across Spain or Portugal (see: our Camino series) are met with resounding silence.

Oh well, at least we get to eat good while we’re there.

Roundtrip for $500? YES

But you don’t have that whole filming part to worry about :) So go to Europe for cheap while you can, eat all the delicious food, see all the incredible things, and come home with a bunch of money still left in your bank account.

There are deals from basically every major airport in the US, many of which are so affordable because of Scandinavian Airlines opening up so many new routes this year.

Just check these deals out - its truly everywhere.

That’s it for the newsletter this week! Hope that gets your gears turning and you start planning your next trip.

Seriously, that Australia deal is awesome. Don’t miss out.

Oh, and if you want to learn how we afford to take all these trips after quitting our jobs 3 years ago, you’ll likely be interested in our Skillshare course on Travel Hacking and Frequent Flier Miles.

It’s been really taking off lately, but we still have a few uses of this link left for those of you who want to see the class for free. It comes with a free month of Skillshare, which is more than enough to watch our class and any of the other great courses on there!
